Getting Started with the Oculus Rift DK2

Here are a list of resources I found helpful when I was first getting started with the Oculus Rift DK2. I’ll try and keep this list updated from time to time. If you’d like to have your website/work added to the list, just shoot me an email.
Getting Started
Useful VR Utilities
  • Virtual Desktop
    • Easily the most essential utility for the Oculus Rift DK2. It allows you to use your computer normally in VR and makes it easy to surf the web, jump in and out of games, and generally make the most of your computer.
  • Video Players
    • You have a couple good options here, but I like LiveViewRift for stereoscopic videos and Riftmax for viewing normal 2D/3D movies
  • JanusVR
    • Janus allows you to walk through a 3D version of the Internet. Consider this a harbinger for the metaverse
  • Dolphin Emulator
    • Allows you to play Wii and Gamecube games in Virtual Reality. So far I’ve played Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, both have worked pretty well
  • VR Chat
    • A lot of VR users hang out in here
Where to Find Experiences/Demos/Games
  • Oculus Share
    • Oculus version of the App Store. All demos on here have been approved by Oculus themselves and are expected to run well
  • Oculus Develop Forums
    • This is where developers share their beta or recently completed demos. Not everything here will work for you
  • Steam
    • Make sure you’re looking for “VR Support” games. These are high quality games that usually cost money and are usually worth it
  • We Are VR
    • General VR experience aggregator
